World Music Day

World Music Day (June 21) is celebrated to support music in all its forms and to make it accessible to everyone. The tradition originated in France in 1982 (Fête de la Musique) and involves people and professional musicians performing for free in public places and sharing the joy of music.

Music itself is available on recordings, streaming platforms, and in listeners’ memories. But online publishing about music is more fragile. Over the years, the Czech music scene has had a number of web magazines that documented it—reviewing albums, conducting interviews with bands, and reporting from festivals and clubs. However, with the demise of a domain, decades of music journalism and the context surrounding it—which no streaming service can replace—also disappear. That is precisely why Webarchiv systematically archives Czech web resources of cultural value, so that this context is preserved for the future.
